manufacturers in its sector to take up the challenge of globalization and develop a clear strategy to open up international markets Right from the outset there was no doubt in the minds of company founders Gerhard Schuler and Eugen Hornberger that an on site presence is key to securing success in the global marketplace Acting on this basic precept way back in the seventies the company launched a consistent strategy to develop a close meshed network of sales and servicing companies and exclusive sales partners in all its important sales regions By the end of the eighties the company was already represented with its own companies in seven countries The development did not stop there but has continued to the present day The HOMAG Group now owns more than 20 of its own sales and servicing companies and works with around 60 exclusive sales partners around the globe Despite the tremendous opportunities opened up by modern communications proximity to the client on the ground is more important today than ever This is due to the ever greater complexity and sophistication of modern machines and in particular their software and control systems A competent local presence on the ground is the only way to make sure of the best possible customer support and assistance In particular too because HOMAG sees its role not as merely a supplier but as a long term partner to its customers The award winner in the personnel management category was vacuum specialist Schmalz based in Glatten Its sustainable approach to company management strong innovative drive and exceptional employee commitment mean that Schmalz can look back on 100 years of successful corporate development Only as recently as the turn of the millennium the company employed a workforce of only 173 which has grown in just ten years

  • HOMAG Group opts for Xylexpo in 2010
the excellent infrastructure long tradition efficient organization and high degree of familiarity of this long standing trade fair A comparison of the two events speaks for itself While the Xylexpo attracted over 850 exhibitors in 2008 the Technodomus in Rimini could claim only around 140 Second only to the Ligna in Hanover which is the clear number one among woodworking machinery fairs Xylexpo opens its doors to around 82 000 visitors making it the second best attended fair of international repute by a wide margin With its 18 000 visitors the Technodomus falls clearly into the category of the many regional trade fairs which take place around the world Foreign visitors account for 52 of all those attending the Xylexpo compared to only 28 at the Technodomus due undoubtedly in part to the attraction of Milan as a location The optimum transport links also speak out in favour of Milan as Rimini can generally only be reached by air with a stopover at either Rome or Milan Italy is the biggest and most important furniture manufacturing country in the world making this an extremely important and attractive market for the HOMAG Group Internationally in particular as regards the Mediterranean countries

  • Saving energy with HOMAG innovations
required for every operating mode is fitted with its own slide valve which is actuated by the machine s control system Depending on the operating status the slide valve is opened or closed This allows the total volumetric flow to be substantially reduced without compromising extraction quality The extraction system also works with different vacuum levels adjusted to the specific needs of each individual unit At the LIGNA a double sided machine was presented in operation and comparative measurements taken at a conventional system and at the new controlled extraction system For this presentation two different vacuum levels were used 1500 Pascal in the hogging area and 2500 Pascal in the finish processing section The machine was run with a vacuum of 1500 Pascal generated by the extractor system with the pressure differential increase to 2500 Pascal for the finish processing section generated by a booster fan The amount of energy was consequently reduced in two ways Firstly by closing the dust covers currently not required for the processing operation by means of a shut off valve and secondly by reducing the vacuum produced to the volume actually required and raising it only where needed A smaller volumetric flow and lower vacuum levels add up to a substantial reduction in overall energy requirement This system was presented live at the LIGNA by HOMAG and demonstrated complete with comparative measurements as just one of over 100 different measures designed to increase resource efficiency The result was a 34 saving as against extraction using conventional systems with a constant vacuum of 2500 Pa Taken over the year this adds up to a total saving of over 40 000 kWh The slide valve control and vacuum regulation system used ensures the need driven connection and disconnection of extraction ports depending on the specific
